Description
Reference standard for measuring fluorescence quantum yield
This is a graph of the molar extinction coefficient of Quinine Sulfate dissolved in 0.5 M H2SO4. Quinine sulfate in 0.5 M H2SO4 has a molar extinction coefficient of 5,700 M-1cm-1 at 347.5 nm.
Quinine in acidic media has been widely recommended as a standard for static fluorescence yield determinations. Quinine is less applicable to time-resolved studies, because its fluorescence decay is not monophasic.
This is the fluorescence emission spectrum of Quinine sulfate dissolved in 0.5 M H2SO4. The spectrum was taken using an excitation wavelength of 310 nm. The quantum yield is 0.546.
