In general, pyrene fluorophores exhibit structured spectra. The absorption maximum is usually centered around 340 nm, and the emission maximum is usually about 380 nm with excimer emission at about 470 nm. 1-Pyrenebutanoic acid is an UVexcitable fluorophore that has concentration-dependent fluorescence due to the formation of excimer. It is widely used to develop ratiometric fluorescent membrane probes.
