This selective ET receptor subtype B agonist is a vasoconstrictor peptide. In experiments on renal vasoconstrictor actions, sarafotoxin 6c appears to be potent at the renal resistance vasculature and is powerfully modulated by NO. It plays a role in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) balance. The differences between central helix of the endothelin and sarafotoxin isopeptides might be important in binding of these ligands by the G protein-coupled endothelin receptors.
