This peptide belongs to the tachykinin family, encoded from a tachykinin precursor 4 gene that generates mRNA . Tachykinin 4 gene expression was detected primarily in adrenal gland and in the placenta. It may be involved in controlling blood flow during pregnancy. The endokinins mediate cardiovascular activity. Endokinin D sequence is N-terminally modified version of endokinin C.
