Description

This peptide is one of the four PAR sub-types, known to induce TNF-alpha secretion from HMC-1 (human leukemic mast cells). In smooth muscle cells, this peptide also induces a prolonged phosphorylation of ERK 1/2. PAR 4 is also known to induce scratching/itch via histamine involvement. PAR4 peptide is acted upon both by trypsin and thrombin. Co-expression of PAR3 and PAR4 enhances thrombin action. PAR4 is expressed in cutaneous mast cells of humans, but not expressed in either keratinocytes or primary afferents.
