This synthetic peptide is a fragment of the human erythropoietin (EPO) sequence, a hormone produced by the kidney that promotes the formation of red blood cells in the bone marrow. Recombinant human erythropoietin (RhEPO) was shown to stimulate erythropoiesis, which leads to an increase in red blood cells. Synthetic hEPO peptide was not tested.
