This 25-mer Notch-1 Aβ-like peptide is secreted during the Notch signaling pathway. Presenilin (PS)-dependent intramembrane proteolysis cleaves the Notch receptor at multiple sites, resulting in the release of Nβ21 and C-terminally elongated Nβ25, in a process similar to the production of Alzheimer disease-associated β-Amyloid during regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP).
