This antimicrobial peptide is designated as NRC-13, a variant of Pleurocidin isolated from the American plaice. The sequence of NRC-3 is derived based on conserved flanking regions of Pleurocidin: an N-terminal signal peptide and a C-terminal acidic peptide. NRC-13 is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, and highly effective against P. aeruginosa.
