This peptide is derived from apolipoprotein E4. Apolipoprotein is a plasma protein present in various organs, such as the spleen, kidney, liver, and brain that binds low-density lipoprotein receptors and participates in cholesterol transport and redistribution. Apoliprotein E also functions in peripheral nerve injury and regeneration, immunoregulation, and regulation of cell growth and differentiation. Apolipoprotein E4 has been implicated in sporadic and late onset Alzheimer’s disease.
