Amyloid toxicity inhibitor peptide 11 is composed of hydrophilic and hydrophobic amino acids. The positively charged unprotected N-terminus allows it to interact with negatively charged C-terminus of b-amyloid 1 to 40. It was shown that this peptide is effective in blocking fibrillization of transmembrane peptide derived from glycophorin A containing a GxMxG motif. Glycophorin sequence can form fibrils with a cross b-structure as in b-amyloid. This peptide inhibits fibrillization by binding to the surface of the beta sheet.
