This tripeptide is a chemoattractant, the primary trigger for early neutrophil invasion into the alkali-injured cornea. It is an inflammatory mediator found in the alkali-injured eye. This peptide is derived from the breakdown of extracellular matrix (ECM), and shares sequence and structural homology with an important domain on alpha chemokines.
