This truncated b-Amyloid peptide amino acid residues 6 to 30 is capable of forming the amyloid-like fibrils. It was shown that if this unlabeled sample was mixed with thioflavin T (ThT) dye, the resulting fluorescence was very high. ThT shifts excitation and emission maxima upon binding to amyloid fibrils and has therefore been used to monitor amyloid fibril formation
