What is an ELISA assay?

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a biochemical method that enables specific and quantitative measurements of proteins/antigens from a variety of biological samples including serum, plasma, or cerebrospinal fluid obtained from a variety of species.

Application of the ELISA testing in Neuroscience

To study proteins implicated in neurodegenerative diseases/pathways, particularly neuronal biomarkers such as beta-amyloid, MOG, PLP & α-Synuclein, quantitative ELISA kits have been found useful to measure amount of these markers and dissect their roles.

These proteins, thus serve as prime candidates for quantitation, detection and therapeutic development in neurodegenerative diseases.
