This peptide is derived from the Neh2 domain of nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2, or Nrf2. Nrf2 is a bZIP transcription factor that regulates the expression of antioxidative and cytoproptective genes. The DxETGE motif of this peptide binds Keap1 Kelch adaptor protein and displaces Nrf2 from Keap1.
